His mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were all skilled seamstresses, and he started sewing at the age of five. By middle school, he was repurposing clothing, and in high school, he was creating full gowns.

The brand name ‘Beeōmbi’ comes from a childhood nickname. When Cherry was three, he mispronounced ‘bologna’ as ‘Beeōmbi,’ and the name stuck. By seventh grade, he was dreaming of making clothes and using that nickname for his brand.

Beeōmbi’s knack for design has made a significant impact, especially in film and TV. After attending the Chicago International Academy of Design and Technology for three years, he returned to St. Louis and landed a tailor job on the set of ‘Selma,’ working with Ruth E. Carter and Ava Duvernay. This experience shifted his career focus to costume design for film and TV. For the past decade, he’s been collaborating with Tyler Perry, designing many of Madea’s outfits and working on productions like ‘Sistahs’ and ‘Perimeter’ on BET.

Besides his work in movies, Beeōmbi is expanding his clothing line, which was featured in Neiman Marcus earlier this year. His designs, praised for their attention to detail, are often compared to Balmain and Alexander McQueen. He enjoys adding an androgynous touch to his women’s wear, incorporating elements that blend both feminine and masculine styles.

At the Bomb Fashion Show, Beeōmbi is set to unveil his latest collection, “Welcome to the Jungle,” inspired by a trip to Africa. The collection will feature a range of pieces made from leather, silk, and wool, including standout leather items in his ready-to-wear collection and haute couture designs.

Beeōmbi is thrilled about his participation in New York Fashion Week and his long-standing admiration for Fashion Bomb Daily. He’s excited to see what’s next for his brand, with plans to keep working on TV projects, expanding his ready-to-wear collection, and even opening a storefront in the near future.

If there’s one person making waves in the fashion world, it’s Derron Cherry with his groundbreaking brand, ‘Beeombi.’ Hailing from St. Louis, Cherry has quickly risen to prominence with his unique designs worn by celebrities like Teyana Taylor, Nia Long, Oprah, and Porsha Williams.
